Recently, several patients have come to me and reported that the online community has questions about the cost of revision rhinoplasty in my practice. This patient noted that one patient had paid $35,000, one had paid $7800 and one had paid nearly $55,000. I then went on to show that there was even more variation if you look closer. This is because the types of operations I handle in my practice vary TREMENDOUSLY! Some of my patients need some rib cartilage placed as a spreader graft and nothing more. Some need the septum completely reconstructed. Other patients need fascia grafts, composite grafts, rib cartilage and an extracorporeal septoplasty. And then there are the noses that have been destroyed by cocaine use. These patients may need two or three operations.
As you can see, the variation of what needs to be done can be great from patient to patient. On top of that, some patients carry insurance that will pay for portions of the reconstructive aspects of their operation. This becomes even more variable as some plans pay well these days, while others pay very poorly. The patient care coordinators and insurance coordinators try to figure out what will be covered and what will not be covered.
Thus, when comparing the cost of any revision rhinoplasty, it is best to try to compare apples to apples instead of apples and oranges. Not all revision rhinoplasty operations are the same. I am also sure that the concept of primary rhinoplasty (first-time rhinoplasty) gets mixed into the equation, which is not helpful! This is partly why it is so important to schedule a consultation before undergoing any type of procedure.
In general, my coordinators can offer a range of prices, but they cannot quote an operation until some type of assessment has been done by me or my PA’s. Please feel free to call the office with any questions regarding this discussion. We want to be as clear as possible with the financial aspect of the process of revision rhinoplasty.
